Seven people, including main accused Moin Uddin, have been arrested by RAB over an extortion incident at CKD Urology Hospital in Dhaka’s Shyamoli, following CCTV evidence and repeated allegations.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven people, including the main accused Moin Uddin, over a sensational extortion incident at CKD Urology Hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area.

The agency confirmed the arrests in a brief message on Monday (April 13), but did not initially provide further details. The other arrested individuals are Suman, Liton, Md. Falan Mia, Md. Rubel, Md. Swapan Kazi and Md. Shawon Hossain.

Earlier, allegations of extortion were raised against Moin Uddin at the hospital run by humanitarian physician Dr. Kamrul Islam. CCTV footage shows that on Friday (April 10) at around 8:40 pm, he entered the hospital with a group and demanded money while issuing threats. It is also alleged that the activities were carried out using the name of Jubo Dal.

The accusations are not limited to that day. Since August 5, he had allegedly been demanding money from the hospital authorities at different times through intimidation. In an attempt to create pressure, efforts were also made to label Dr Kamrul Islam as affiliated with the Awami League and gather people in front of the hospital.

After the incident became known, central leaders of Jubo Dal visited the hospital at midnight. Although Moin claimed to be a former organizing secretary of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana Jubo Dal, the central leaders said he has no connection with the organization. They assured Dr. Kamrul of full support.

Dr Kamrul Islam, known for his humanitarian work, has performed more than 2,000 kidney transplants free of charge, earning widespread recognition at home and abroad. He was awarded the Independence Award in 2022 for his contributions to public service.
