The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is set to deliver its verdict next week in the crimes against humanity case filed against seven individuals, including Awami League’s suspended General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam shared this information with journalists at his tribunal office on Thursday afternoon.
“In the crimes against humanity case filed over the July mass uprising, any day next week could be set for the verdict. Arguments from both the prosecution and the defense have concluded. We expect the date for the judgment to be fixed for sometime next week,” the Chief Prosecutor stated.
Previously, on August 17, a three-member judicial panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2, led by Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, kept the verdict pending after concluding the legal arguments.
Apart from Obaidul Quader, the other accused individuals in the case are Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, and General Secretary Wali Asif Inan. All seven accused are currently fugitives.
