Chittagong University (CU) campus has been decorated to reflect the familiar atmosphere of rural Bengal in celebration of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year.

This year’s day-long event will exhibit the deteriorating traditions, folk culture, and delighted rural lifestyle of Bengal.

According to the organizing committee, the formal program will begin at 10:30 am with a colorful Baishakhi procession. The procession will start from Saran Square and proceed to Jarultala, featuring various symbols of Bengal’s heritage, history, and culture.

Following the procession, a discussion session will be held at the Baishakhi stage in Jarultala. However, the main highlight of the event will be the traditional activities taking place throughout the day.

From the afternoon onwards, different areas of the campus will host popular rural games, including puppet shows, traditional wrestling, kabaddi, and bouchi, exhibiting long-standing recreational practices of village life.

At the same time, arrangements have been made to present a realistic depiction of rural Bengali life for visitors. Attractions such as a ferris wheel, palanquin, bullock cart, horse carriage, and bioscope will create a unique festive environment across the campus, according to the organizers.

To further enhance the celebration, an entrepreneurs’ fair will be held, featuring local products and traditional items.

Additionally, cultural performances will take place at the Baishakhi stage later in the day. Songs, dance, and musical programs celebrating the spirit of Baishakh will fill the entire campus with a festive atmosphere.

The university administration has stated that the event is open to everyone.

However, motorcycles and private cars will not be allowed to enter the campus for outside visitors on that day.
