Bangladesh have named a 15-member squad for the opening Test against Pakistan, springing a surprise with two uncapped inclusions as they begin their World Test Championship campaign at home.
Domestic standout Amit Hasan and limited-overs opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim have earned their maiden Test call-ups. Amit has been in prolific form in first-class cricket, scoring 3,650 runs in 49 matches at an average above 49, including 11 centuries.
Tanzid, who has represented Bangladesh in 34 One Day Internationals and 45 Twenty20 Internationals, receives his first opportunity in the red-ball format.
The squad also sees the return of pace bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam after a lengthy absence from Test cricket. Experienced campaigners Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das have been retained to strengthen the batting unit.
In the spin department, Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be joined by the returning Nayeem Hasan, adding depth to Bangladesh’s slow-bowling options.
The first Test is scheduled to begin on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The second Test will be held in Sylhet starting May 16.
