A total of 252 women and girls faced different forms of violence across Bangladesh in August 2026, according to a report by the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP). 

The report revealed that an average of eight women and girls became victims of violence every day during the month. Among the victims, 55 were killed, while 54 were subjected to rape.

The findings were published in a press release issued by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad on Tuesday. The organisation said the data was compiled by its Central Legal Aid Sub-Committee based on reports published in 15 national newspapers and two online news outlets.

According to the report, of the 252 victims recorded in August, 118 were girls and 134 were women. Among those killed, 10 were girls and 45 were women.

The report said 54 people were raped during the month, including 36 girls and 18 women. Of the rape victims, 13 people, including eight girls, were subjected to gang rape. Two victims, including one girl, were killed following rape. Additionally, 14 people, including 11 girls, faced attempted rape.

The report also highlighted cases of sexual violence, stating that 30 people, including 24 girls, experienced sexual abuse in August. Among them, 14 people, including 12 girls, were victims of sexual harassment, while nine people, including eight girls, faced stalking and harassment. Meanwhile, seven people, including four girls, became victims of cyber violence.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad further said women and girls were also subjected to other forms of violence, including attempted murder, burn injuries, suicide, abuse of domestic workers, family violence, child marriage and abduction.
