Confirming the matter, Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Daud Hossain said ‘Dhaka Post’ that the raid was launched following allegations that the spa centres were involved in immoral activities, prostitution and other criminal operations while operating as legitimate spa businesses.
“A total of 28 people were arrested during the operation. Legal proceedings against them are currently underway,” he said.
The police official added that an organised group had allegedly been running several spa centres in the capital’s affluent areas for a long time. According to investigators, complaints suggested that illegal activities were being conducted behind the cover of health care and beauty treatment services.
Authorities also received complaints from local residents and concerned community members regarding the alleged activities at the establishments, he said.
Daud said law enforcement agencies would not allow any spa centre in the capital to be used as a cover for illegal operations and that similar drives would continue regularly against establishments facing such allegations.
