Majority of U.S. Democrats Support Punitive Action Against Israel: Survey

The poll, released on Friday, found that 80% of Democratic respondents believe U.S. support for Israel should be reduced.

A survey reveals that majority of Democratic voters in the United States favor punitive actions against Israel, with many expressing concern over the situation in Gaza. The poll, released on Friday, found that 80% of Democratic respondents believe U.S. support for Israel should be reduced.

The survey further shows that 72% of participants consider Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide. Additionally, 65% of Democratic voters say they want to see sanctions imposed on Israel for committing what they view as acts of genocide.

Support for tougher actions is particularly strong among young Democrats. Among voters aged 18 to 29, calls for punitive action against Israel have grown significantly, in some cases by 10 percentage points or more compared to previous surveys.

The poll was commissioned by the Institute for Middle East Understanding Policy Project and Gen-Z for Change, and conducted by YouGov. It included 1,221 self-identified Democratic voters, divided nearly evenly into two groups, who were then asked a series of detailed questions regarding sanctions and U.S. policy toward Israel.
