A Dhaka court on Monday (27 May) imposed a travel ban on Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir, the suspended Joint Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), amid an ongoing investigation into serious graft allegations against him.

Senior Special Judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court, Md Zakir Hossain Galib, issued the order after reviewing two petitions submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Alongside the travel restriction, the court also directed the authorities to block Tanvir’s National Identity (NID) card to prevent him from fleeing and to aid the investigation.

The ACC, in its petitions, stated that Tanvir is under investigation for allegedly misappropriating hundreds of crores of taka through abuse of power, extortion, manipulation of tenders, and other corrupt practices. Officials expressed concern that the accused may attempt to leave the country to evade the legal process.

ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Aktarul Islam confirmed the court’s directives to journalists.

Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir was relieved of his party position on 21 April after initial allegations of corruption surfaced, prompting the ongoing investigation by the ACC.
