The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)—a tongue-in-cheek political movement founded by 30-year-old digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke—is spearheading massive street protests and digital campaigns demanding structural education reforms and political accountability.
The Spark: From Supreme Court Insult to Viral Parody
The movement’s origins trace back to May 2026, when Chief Justice of India Surya Kant made remarks during a Supreme Court hearing comparing unemployed, protesting youth to “cockroaches” and “parasites of society”.
In response, Dipke launched the Cockroach Janta Party online on May 16, 2026, as a direct play on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Embracing the “cockroach” label as a symbol of resilience, the mock platform set satirically relatable eligibility criteria: being unemployed, chronically online, and capable of ranting professionally.
Within two weeks, CJP’s Instagram page amassed over 22 million followers—surpassing the official social media reach of India’s major established political entities.
From Online Memes to Street Protests
While CJP started as an internet phenomenon, it quickly shifted offline to channel widespread youth frustration over systemic issues:
Competitive Exam Leaks: The movement turned its focus toward high-stakes exam paper leaks (notably the NEET medical entrance exams), which affect millions of students battling severe pressure and financial burdens.
Key Demands: CJP activists are calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, an independent investigation into exam corruption, and concrete measures against youth unemployment.
