​Activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Chittagong University organized a tree-planting campaign at the Shahjalal Hall premises.Â
The gathering also served as an official welcoming event for the newly appointed hall provost, Dr. Md. Khaled Afzal.
​The plantation drive was arranged in strict solidarity with the “250 million trees in five years” program recently announced by Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). JCD leaders and grassroots activists planted various saplings across the dormitory grounds to help maintain ecological balance, tackle the growing risks of climate change and build a greener Bangladesh.
​During the drive, student leaders called upon the public to plant at least one tree each. They emphasized that widespread student participation is absolutely crucial in this green revolution to protect the local environment.
​Following the planting session, JCD activists presented floral greetings to the new provost. The student representatives took the opportunity to outline several proposals and demands addressing future structural development of the hall and the ongoing daily problems faced by residential students.
​The program was attended by Provost Dr. Md. Khaled Afzal alongside Chittagong University JCD joint general secretaries Mostafizur Rahman, Syed Rakibul Kader Nion, Mamunur Rashid Shuvo, Tanvir Hasan, Ashik Babu, Khalid, Taef, Tanzil and numerous other student activists.
